Medical Front Office / Medical Assistant 

This course prepares the student to fulfill a key role in medical institutions. This class will teach the student to perform a variety of administrative tasks. They will learn how to properly greet patients, gather patient information, telephone skills, manage patient records, file insurance forms, schedule appointments and arrange clinical procedures, such as X-rays and outpatient procedures.

This course provides the skills needed for an entry-level position in any medical facility. Once students have enough work experience, they may be eligible to take a nationally accredited certification exam. Organizations like the National Health Career Association, NCCT, and AMT offer some kind of work experience eligibility for their NCCA accredited MA exam.

Medical Insurance Billing

This course prepares students with an understanding of billing and collections. The student learns the fundamentals of how to calculate patient charges and collect payments for medical procedures and services. Students learn to post insurance and patient payments and manage accounts, submit claims to various types of insurance carriers. Students also learn how to follow up on unpaid or rejected claims. Students learn to answer patient inquiries on account status and charges.

Medical Terminology

Students will learn to identify medical terms and words by their parts; define the body structure and its systems, cavities, planes, and positions, explain the importance of medical terminology in healthcare professions. Understanding medical terminology opens doors to several careers in the healthcare field. Those jobs include medical transcription, medical assistant, medical coding and billing, medical secretary, and health information or medical records.
